Oh, Beautiful Day…

It is a beautiful day today in Austin, so get up your couch or bed and enjoy the fresh smells that nature offers!

Today I went to my community park and trail for a run and let me tell you, it was just the best way to start my day. Going out in the mornings for a walk or run it energizes you and it makes you feel way better for the rest of the day. Just walking and feeling the light wind hitting your body it makes you feel alive. Sometimes we need to take a moment to admire and enjoy the beautiful views that nature offers.

It’s been the perfect weather, is nice and bright, not too hot and with light, fresh winds, so I had to go on a jog with Buttercup, my dog. It was fun seeing her go after squirrels and birds and she even made new poodle friends. She’s my running buddy and she does a great job, I even think she’s more in shape than I am 🙂

Most community recreation centers have their own volleyball beach field, a racket ball court, their basketball court, a soccer field and/or baseball field. All should have a pool if I’m not mistaken, it would be sad if they don’t. And all have a trail where you can either walk, jog, or run. I like going to Rattan Creek Park, Cedar Park and Katherine Fleischer Park. They all are very clean, have great running trails, lakes and plenty of extras for other activities.

If you want to go to a park or trail there are plenty to choose from in Austin, TX. Almost every community has their recreational center and trails. Go ahead and feel free to click the links to find about parks and trails locations in Austin, TX. Enjoy and live a healthy life!

Fun at the Park

By now you already can tell that I love the outdoors. I really do, and I love going to the park and just walk my poodle, Buttercup. Is not only relaxing for me but is really fun for her to have all this large space to run and chase balls and occasionally kids.

There are so many parks that you can visit in Austin, but I got to say that my favorite one so far is Zilker Park. Zilker Park is for everyone and there are tons of activities to perform so there is always an excuse to go to the park.

Zilker Park has beautiful green hills where people just lay down to relax and/or tan. If you just want to have a lazy day, then just come, lay down on the grass, put on your headphones and listen to your music. This is a great park for picnicking too. There is so much land that it doesn’t matter where you decide to be, you’ll have enough space to yourself and whoever else is with you without anyone disturbing your activities. It is a great place to play under the sun and have a good time.

This is also the place for many festivities and events. The Kite Festival takes place here during the month of March. It’s an all day festival where families and friends gather together and fly their kites. All you see on the skies are colorful kites everywhere. I was so amazed when I saw this and I was so impressed with how many people attend to participate. It is really enjoyable and next year you shouldn’t miss it! Austin’s Blues on the Green is coming up in June. If you like blues music this is something you want to attend, it runs almost every wednesday until August. One of the biggest events that happens at Zilker Park is the Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival. More than 100 bands come together to play for thousands of fans from all over the world.

I will keep you updated of upcoming events once it starts getting closer, but keep in mind Zilker Park for even just a regular day. It is really a beautiful place.

Canoeing at Zilker Park!

Zilker Park is known for all the fun and recreational events that offers to the Austinites. This is a 351 acre lake and trail where you can go for just a walk, run, bike, fish, or lay down under the sun and relax among more activities that there are to do! So, all you outdoors lovers, fitness oriented people, and fun goers this is the place for you to have a great time and distress.

One activity that I love doing at Zilker Park is canoeing. And, let me tell you, you don’t have to be an expert to canoe. I’m not, I still continue to learn the skills of canoeing and I don’t even know how to swim. So, don’t worry, just sit and relax! But, basically the rules are simple, in order to go one direction, you have to paddle the opposite direction. You want to go right, you paddle on your left side; you want to go left, then you paddle with your right side. If you want to go reverse, you paddle towards the front; in other words, pushing the water to the front and you do the same if you just want to slow down or come to a complete stop. If you want to do a complete 360 degree rotation, you just paddle whichever  one direction until you reach that point. See, is very simple, and in one time that you go canoeing, in less than 30 minutes you can learn those simple steps.

Canoeing is a great exercise too! It gives you a great upper body workout and amazing cardiovascular effects. It mainly targets your arms, back and abs and at the same time you get to have a fun time with friends and/or family. Just make sure you use proper posture and balancing techniques to avoid any type of injuries and overall enjoy it!

My Favorite Event this Week…

My favorite event this week…..is just so hard to decide. The Presskit event with The Rocketboys, Kevin Devine, The Chevin and others performing was very fun to watch. The Stage on Sixth had a variety of showcases of different bands playing, they provided with free food and drinks which made it better. Nas performed at The Belmont and also provided with a live interview which was very interesting because it showed how down to earth he is. But, my favorite event had to be The Fader*Coverse Fort event. Other than the free drinks, free Vitaminwater, sun glasses, and best of all free customized shirts, I had an amazing time seeing Big K.R.I.T. perform. Great performance, he jumped into the crowd and you can imagine how crazy everybody went. You could feel this whole adrenaline of excitement while he was with the crowd. This has been a very memorable SXSW week.

This Week In ATX

This week in Austin is Big, I mean Big!

SXSW is here! The biggest music, film, interactive conference and festival will keep you busy all week long. It started March 13th and it ends on the 18th of the month. SXSW has locations all over downtown Austin, and you can find movie showings, music concerts, RSVP parties, trade shows, interactive conferences such as Managers of the World Unite! Meet Up and lots of free stuff!

I attended Saturday’s events and Monday’s, but I have to say that I had a better feel of what SXSW is really about on Monday since I walked around downtown almost all day and I got to attend some free events. Even though my day ended at 11:30 pm because I was so exhausted due to the walking, I had so much fun!

I was able to attend Bing + Cheezburger Lounge Party, The Toxic Taco free food event, which I have to say, one bite was more than enough and I had to sign a waiver previous to trying it. How funny is that lol. I also attend the Interactive Mixer featuring video remix artist Mike Relm at The Stage, Eat.Drink.Be Human with Skype concert which was great to experience. I walked through the socially electrifying 6th St. and got free shirts, a usb drive, free drinks, water, energy drinks, and more free food, but best of all I got to listen to free music!

Some big events coming up are Pure Volume House by iHeart Radio, Nikon and Warner Music, Filter and  Dickies, Noise Pop SXSW Party, A Badass Party, Industry of Music Presented by Dogfish and Fader.Converse Fort but you need to RSVP to go in. I did and I can’t wait!

For more events, schedule, and locations you may visit SXSW.

And stay tuned with my Twitter for updates!
